Embark on an unforgettable 7-day hiking adventure through the breathtaking Couserans region of the French Pyrenees to experience the powerful perspective these ancient formations offer. This unique journey blends scenic hikes to awe-inspiring geological points with cultural experiences that allow you to experience the mountain hospitality of Southern France authentically. This adventure includes moderate hikes between 7 and 12 KM allowing you to explore pristine mountain landscapes, ancient caves, and cascading waterfalls in the impressive Pyrenees Mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1 / Welcome ot the Pyrenees Mountains (Copy)

Arrive in the medieval town of Foix, where our journey begins. After a scenic drive, we visit the stunning Lac de Bethmale, famous for its emerald-green waters. From here, we take a short hike up to Le Col de la Core, a panoramic mountain pass where we enjoy a picnic lunch with spectacular views of the surrounding peaks.

Day 2 / Waterfalls and History: Gain Perspective on the Pyrenees (Copy)

Today we hike to the breathtaking Cascade d'Arcouzan, a hidden waterfall nestled in lush forest scenery. Then, explore the Château de Seix Museum, a historical gem that unveils the traditions of the Pyrenean valleys. Later, we visit Le Musée des Colporteurs, a fascinating museum dedicated to the traveling merchants of old.

Day 3 / Hiking the Otherworldly Massif de Sourroque (Copy)

Today, we venture into the Massif de Sourroque, home to some of the region’s most intriguing geological formations. We explore the mysterious Degaudez Abyss and deep gouffres (sinkholes), learning about the underground forces that shaped the Pyrenees. Afterward, we indulge in artisan cheeses at Moulis Fromagerie, where local cheesemakers share their craft.

Day 4 / The Iconic Mont Valier (Copy)

Enjoy an exhilarating hike near Mont Vali er, one of the most iconic peaks in the region. This intermediate trail takes us through alpine meadows and dramatic ridges, offering unforgettable views of the Pyrenees wilderness. We finish with a well-earned lunch at La Maison du Valier, a cozy mountain refuge with delicious regional dishes.

Day 5 / Market Day in a Pyrenean Village (Copy)

Step into the heart of local culture with a visit to Le Mas d’Azil Mark et, where you can browse handcrafted goods, fresh produce, and regional specialties. In the afternoon, enjoy free time to explore vibrant Saint-Giro ns, the capital of the Courserans.

Day 6 / The Power of Water in the Pyrenees (Copy)

Today’s adventure takes us to the spectacular Ars Waterfa ll, one of the highest and most impressive waterfalls in the Pyrenees. After our hike, we unwind in the traditional thermal village of Aulus-les-Bai ns, where you can soak in natural hot springs and relax in a tranquil setting.
