About Athara Adventures
Travel further, grow deeper, do it together.
Adventure is about going further, but not in comparison or spectacle. It is not about the rush, the photograph, or the appearance of doing something bold.
Sometimes it is about stripping away the noise and discovering what has been there all along: your own capability, the steadiness of the present moment, the integrity of the land, and the stories of those who have walked before you.
Athara Adventures exists for people who feel a pull towards depth, clarity, and a more intentional way of living. While many of those drawn to us are women, our work is led by women and shaped by values of compassion, courage, responsibility, and connection. We welcome men who resonate with this grounded, relational approach, particularly on our walking and cycling holidays, cultural journeys, and coaching experiences.
We do not see adventure and retreat as opposites. We see them as expressions of the same path.
Where the Name Athara Comes From
The name Athara comes from the saga of a legendary Amazon warrior, leader, and teacher said to have lived nearly 3,000 years ago on the southern steppes of modern-day Ukraine near the Black Sea. She led a fierce band of warrior women who were feared by their enemies and known for their unmatched skill in battle. They were fiercely loyal to their clan and to one another.
We were drawn to these women not simply for their strength, but for the balance they embodied: courage and tenderness, discipline and devotion, independence and deep loyalty.
The values of honour, courage, responsibility, and sisterhood continue to shape Athara Adventures today. Not as mythology, but as lived principles that inform how we lead, how we relate to one another, and how we craft meaningful experiences for those who travel with us.
Whether on a mountain trail or in a contemplative workshop, the work is the same: attention, effort, reflection, and choice. The physical strengthens the internal. The internal clarifies the physical.
Hiking and cycling journeys carry moments of inward listening. Retreats include movement, challenge, and embodied experience. It is not either/or, but a gradient of emphasis.
Many people return to Athara Adventures again and again. Some deepen into new landscapes. Others build on earlier experiences with custom retreats or advanced journeys. There is no prescribed progression. Growth unfolds individually, and we meet people where they are.
Adventure, Connection, and Growth.
At Athara, adventure is not defined by distance, speed, or endurance. It is defined by willingness.
For some, that willingness looks like hiking through unfamiliar terrain or cycling across mountain passes. For others, it looks like slowing down, listening inward, or allowing space for reflection and change. Often, it is both at the same time. Our work lives in both, holding together effort and ease, support and responsibility, compassion and challenge.
Growth is about engaging honestly with what is present and expanding what feels possible. We create the conditions for people to stretch, and we trust them to take the steps. We are attentive and supportive, but we do not carry people through their experience. Through direct encounter with landscape, history, and self, participants often discover they are more capable than they believed.
Athara Adventures is led by three women who work in close partnership, each stewarding parts of the whole and bringing distinct strengths to different aspects of the experience.
We pay close attention to detail, people, and place so that participants have the freedom to meet challenges with presence rather than overwhelm. Meaningful relationships, clear safety protocols, cultural depth, responsiveness, and operational excellence all matter.
Routes and workshops are intentionally designed using our professional training, mountain expertise, and psychological knowledge. Structure allows freedom.
We offer guidance, laugh together, and stay attentive, while trusting each individual to engage, choose, and take responsibility for their own experience. We carry a strong sense of responsibility to the people who travel and work with us.
Camaraderie is central to how we work. Not as performance, but as lived practice, tested in the mountains and strengthened over time.
Three women. One shared commitment.
Anna, Seoka, and Sarah bring different strengths, perspectives, and ways of seeing, and it is their collaboration that gives Athara its character. Time spent with them often carries a feeling of ease and liveliness alongside depth and steadiness. There is room for laughter, honesty, clarity, and thoughtful challenge, all within a shared commitment to doing this work well.
If you would like to learn more about the women who guide our’s retreats, tours, and coaching experiences, you are welcome to meet the founders and explore their individual paths.

For over a decade, the landscapes of southern Europe, particularly the Pyrenees mountains and valleys, have shaped our work.
Time spent in these places, learning their histories, and building relationships with the people who live there has deeply influenced how we understand growth, resilience, and belonging. These landscapes invite honesty. They reflect effort back to you. They ask for attention, humility, and respect. When approached with intention, they offer clarity, perspective, and a deep sense of connection.
We are intentional about working in rhythm with local culture. Our journeys include stays in welcoming, family-run accommodation, where mountain hospitality and village life are part of the experience. Respect for local traditions, landscape, and pace is not an add-on; it is foundational.
The Pyrenees were an early home for our vision, and they continue to inform how we work today. This same sensibility now extends to other regions, including Norway, where land, history, and human strength are equally intertwined.
