Overview

If you're an intermediate hiker seeking your next physical and technical challenge and looking for a taste of the unique Pyrenees mountains, then you've come to the right place. Exploring this beautiful region on foot is an experience like no other.

From walking through ancient gorges that have been carved by prehistoric waterways over millennia to taking in the extraordinary 360-degree views from 12th-century castles that rise out of the cliff faces, and sampling the local wine and cuisine, this tour provides the opportunity to have unique experiences that will create lasting memories.

With a home base return every evening and carrying a day pack, you will complete single-day hikes to various destinations. The two bases are Cucugnan, a charming village with a windmill still used to grind flour for the local bakery, and Puivert, a tranquil village that is home to its own medieval castle, a local brewery, and a troubadour museum showcasing the Cathar culture.

Details

  • We will be in some rural areas, and there are shops and cafés that only take cash, so it is important to have euros with you when you travel. Generally speaking, €300 - €500 should be fine for the tour, but you can plan your cash amount based on your personal spending plans while you travel. We have found it simplest to purchase euros from your bank prior to traveling to Europe. Another option is retrieving cash from an ATM at the airport when you arrive in France, which gives you the best exchange rate on that day. Tip: Make sure you are aware of your bank’s fees for international withdrawals, as well as other credit card usage fees.

  • Athara Adventures strongly recommends that you obtain travel insurance. Depending on the type of tour that you have booked, Athara Adventures may also require that you secure or show proof of other insurance.
